As of January 12th 2016 all Windows 8 users will have received their last batch of security updates for the Windows 8 operating system as it has now reached it’s end of life.

Generally Windows Operating Systems come with a 10 year, but Windows 8.0 is an exception and in turn has only had 24 months of support which ended as of January 12th.

The reason behind this is Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. With free upgrades to both of these operating systems available, Microsoft are pushing for people to do 1 of 2 things:

  1. Upgrade your Operating System to a newer more secure version
  2. Do nothing and continue to use your current operating system in a less secure fashion

Additionally, as of January 12th Microsoft are no longer offering security updates for Internet Explorer 8, 9 or 10 in an attempt to push people to use Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge (Windows 10 only).
